Write for us
We welcome pitches that make a specific Southern subject easier to understand without flattening its differences. A strong contribution is rooted in a clear question, offers useful context and avoids presenting one community's experience as the region's universal story.
What to propose
Pitch reported, explanatory or essayistic work on foodways, place, traditions, language or material culture. The best ideas have a distinct angle: name the subject, the question readers will leave with and why it merits attention now or as an evergreen piece.
What makes a strong pitch
Tell us the proposed format, likely scope, relevant experience and the sources or perspectives you would seek. Explain what is known, what remains uncertain and how you would handle regional variation. Do not send a finished article unless requested.
How to send it
Send proposals through the Contact page and choose the editorial question option. We review ideas for fit, clarity and original contribution; submission does not guarantee acceptance or publication.
A region is more than its familiar symbols.
Southern life varies from place to place and changes over time. We look at its details with curiosity, context and a healthy suspicion of easy generalisations.
